To Love God is to Hate Sin
To Love God is to Hate Sin

Psalm 119:97 MEM. O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.
Psalm 119:104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.
Psalm 119 is divided into 22 sections of eight verses. This section begins with an exclamation of love for the bible. It ends with hatred for every false way. Other scriptures also expound on the truth that if we love God, we will hate sin. If we love God we will love what He loves and hate what He hates. The more we love God the more we will hate sin. Proverbs 8:13 “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.”
God is ultimate holiness, goodness and purity. God is good all the time! There is no evil or falsehood to be found in God. God is perfectly perfect. Sin represents the opposite of God’s qualities. Sin is a moral and spiritual affront to God’s very nature.
Romans 12:9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
Christians should hate sin but not the sinner. We must remember that we are sinners saved by the grace of God. We can treat others with kindness and respect, while standing firm against injustice and immorality. We should reflect God's love and grace without justifying sin. We must embrace the virtues of Christ of which we have been made partakers. See also Romans 12, 2 Peter 1:3-10, and Galatians 5:16-25.
Application: “Am I a reflection of Christ?” “Do I justify for myself that which God hates?” “Do I abhor pride when it is I that am proud?”
