A Lighted Path

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

A lamp in ancient times was a simple instrument—a small vessel of clay or metal holding oil and a wick. It did not illuminate vast expanses but provided just enough light to take the next few steps safely. The Bible offers clarity and direction for immediate decisions, even when the entirety of the path ahead requires faith and continued guidance from God. The Holy Spirit gives us comfort and discernment along the path of life.

In this section (Psalm 119:105-112) the psalmist expresses his afflictions, fears, requests, and promises to God. He ends this section rejoicing in God’s Word and saying that his heart is inclined to obey.

From these verses we must humbly say that we don’t know how to make life work, but God does know how to make life work. Let’s serve God today with the light He has given us. "I have inclined mine heart to perform thy statutes alway, even unto the end." Psalm 119:112

Have you talked to God today? Are you receiving light from His Word? Is your heart inclined to obey His Word?
