My Shepherd
The Lord is my Shepherd

Psalm 23:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
The Lord is My Shepherd
My wife, Ann, told me that she has been meditating on this verse during her illness. It has helped her to have less worry. We can all benefit from meditating on the timeless truths of this verse.
King David, who went from shepherding sheep to shepherding a nation was very familiar with the role of a shepherd. David used this metaphor to convey his reliance on God’s guidance and care. As a shepherd is a provider, protector and guide to his sheep, so is God to us. This declaration is a confident, personal, submissive declaration. It is present tense.
I Shall Not Want.
David trusted God to supply his needs. The word, ‘want’ has to do with lacking necessities or failure. Meditation on Psalm 23:1 should give you peace and comfort. The spirit of fear does not come to the Christian from God. “Fear not” is commanded 63 times in the Bible. If you are letting fear and worry overcome you, then you must meditate on this verse. You can turn your troubles over to your Shepherd who cares for your soul!
