Service Before Self

Memorial Day - Forever Grateful

Memorial Day is probably the most somber of our American holidays. It is a day to honor the death of those who gave their lives for our country. We are grateful for the freedom we enjoy from their sacrifices. Let’s remember their courage and strength by being strong and courageous. Billions of people the world over wish they had the freedoms and peace we enjoy. We must not take our freedom for granted. We will continue to need courageous men and women in our armed forces, and in our communities, and churches.

Let their self-sacrifice motivate us to live our life a sacrifice for others. This past week I received a challenge coin given to veterans and first responders. The inscription on the back says, “Service before self.”

Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
