Guardrails - Boundaries for Christian Living

I can remember several years ago driving the church van up Mount Graham. There were several sharp turns with no guardrails. Even though there was plenty of room to make the turns it was scary for me. I believe I had someone else drive down the mountain. Recently, my son was driving down a mountain and got his truck stuck on the side of the road leaning over a steep ridge – No Guardrail. The truck came close to tumbling down to the bottom. I told him that he needed to give God thanks!

The Bible is our Guardrail. It contains many boundaries for Christian Living. Boundaries are for our good. They protect us. God doesn’t say, “No!” or “Thou shalt not,” just to make us not have fun. Most of the problems we have are because we didn’t listen to God. Even Adam and Eve had boundaries. God gave them the freedom of the entire Garden of Eden. There was only one tree that God was protecting them from, but they disobeyed God and ate of it. They then lost the freedom of the Garden of Eden. When we chose to not live within God’s boundaries for us, we then lose the freedoms God wants us to have. Jesus said, John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” God’s plan for us is to live the Christian life under the Umbrella of His protection. When we step out from under God’s protection, we make life hard for ourselves (Prov. 13:15).

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

All Scripture is given by God and is intended to tell us:

      What God says is right,

What God says is not right,

What God wants us to do to get right,

And how God intends for us to stay right.

Let’s say, “If God is against it, so am I. If God is for it, so am I.” Let's agree with God; He is always right! Amos 3:3
