"TEACH ME THY STATUTES"

"… Teach me thy statutes. I am thy servant; give me understanding, that I may know thy testimonies." Psalm 119:124b-125

It’s almost time for school to be back in session. We want our children and grandchildren to be educated. In their day the Hebrews were probably the most educated people on earth.  In many countries only the wealthy and officials learned to read and write. Often, only 3-10% of the population were literate. God desired for parents and children to read His Word. (Deuteronomy 6:7)

In Psalm 119 we see the psalmist desiring to have a greater understanding of the scriptures. He wants God to teach him. He desires a closer relationship with God. He desires to serve God. Getting to know God better through the Scriptures will make him a better servant.

Jeremiah 9:23-24 "Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: 24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD."

God delights in our increasing understanding and knowledge of Him. God deserves everything it takes to know Him better.
