TEACHABLE SPIRIT

AFTER PUTTING OFF ENTANGLEMENTS, YOU MUST REPLACE THEM WITH GODLY ACTIONS.

Putting off entanglements is only half the battle to gaining victory; you cannot simply put something off without replacing that space with something good. Otherwise, the bad will find its way back in. We call this the put off/put on principle. To gain victory, you must put off the old sinful deeds and put on the new righteous deeds. This combination is what ensures continued freedom.

How do I learn to replace the addictions with godly actions?

Psalm 25:9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.

Have you ever tried to teach someone that didn’t want your listen to your instructions? Have you seen someone doing something the wrong way and tried to help them correct what they were doing, only to be rebuffed? We cannot expect God to guide us if we are not willing to receive His guidance.

Do you agree with me that God has the ability to guide us in making wise decisions? If we are not accepting of God’s guidance will we receive it?

Psalm 25 teaches us that God guides and teaches the meek. If we are going to act and respond to life’s difficulties in a godly manner, do you agree with me that we need God’s guidance and instruction?

Meekness on our part is essential for our God’s guidance and instruction. What is Meekness?

MEE'KNESS, n. Softness of temper; mildness; gentleness; forbearance under injuries and provocations.

1. In an evangelical sense, humility; resignation; submission to the divine will, without murmuring or peevishness; opposed to pride, arrogance and refractoriness.

Examples of meekness with God

  • Abraham continued to submit to what God wanted him to do. He was a powerful man that could command an army, but he was humble before God.
  • Moses had great authority, yet he was humble before God.
  • David had been anointed king, yet he wouldn’t harm Saul. He was able to let God be in control of Saul.
  • Jeremiah withstood mocking and persecution, yet he kept preaching as God wanted him to.
  • Paul faced persecution and many setbacks, yet he was content with what God had for him.

Meekness follows poverty of spirit and mourning over our own sinfulness. Meekness necessitates having a true view of our own sinfulness and an absence of pride. The meek man isn’t sensitive about himself. He isn’t defensive. He doesn’t worry himself about what others are saying about him. He never pities himself.

Meekness expresses itself in our demeanor and in our behavior with respect to others.

  • There is a complete absence of the spirit of bitterness and retaliation.
  • There is a teachable spirit. We are taught by the Holy Spirit.
  • We leave everything – ourselves, our rights, our cause, our whole future – in the hands of God.

Results

  • We are satisfied and content.
  • We will judge the world.
  • We will reign with Christ.

Submit to God’s authority in your life. As you submit to God and listen to Him through His Word and preaching, then apply and practice the Word in your life. God will lead you and guide you in leading a godly life.

Other characteristics of a person who wants to live godly:

  • Psalm 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
  • Psalm 55:17 Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.
