Come Unto Me

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

The past two weeks I have written regarding Jesus being the Word of God. Last week I listed several commands that Jesus gave followed by a miraculous event. A storm ceases; a tree withers; men and women are healed, etc. The above verse is also a command. Jesus says, “Come.”

When Jesus says, “Come,” it has a drawing effect. Jesus draws us to Him. An event takes place in our life. We are drawn to Jesus. However, God gives us a choice. Even though we are being drawn, we can go against our conscience and against God and refuse to come. This is sad.

  • Jeremiah 29:19 Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.
  • John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

Jesus wants you to come to Him first with a listening ear thirsting for Him. Only Jesus can satisfy.

  • Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
