A Time of Spiritual Enrichment

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

The title of our hymnal is The Hymnal for Worship and Celebration. The purpose of our music is to worship God for who He is and to celebrate all that God has done on our behalf.  In our worship services we talk to God through our prayers and music. Then we listen to God through the sermon. In an hour and fifteen-minute service our minds are going to wander at times, but we need to keep bringing our minds back into focus on our speaking to God and on our listening to God. When we sing, we should think about the words we are singing and make them a prayer to God. When we listen to the choir or special music we should silently listen and think about the words and make them also our prayer to God.

Our church services can be a time of spiritual enrichment and refreshment., depending on what we put into it. Let’s stay focused by putting our heart into the congregational singing and by listening with our mind and heart to each person who ministers to us in song and preaching.
