ASK FOR THE OLD PATHS

Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
God is a God of Grace. He will destroy, but He wants to build and to plant (Jer. 1:10). Jeremiah has been warning the people of coming judgment, but even though God is bringing judgment, there is hope for those who are desiring God – for those who are asking for the old paths. These old paths were made by the likes of Abel, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Samuel, and David. The path might need some restoration, but it is visible for the person who is seeking it.
As Christians, we are not only to walk on the path, but to be keepers of the path (Isaiah 58:12). We are to repair and restore those parts that need repair. In the New Testament era, as well as today there are those who want to add to our change the Gospel. Our church and churches like ours are keeping the old-fashioned Gospel simple and pure. We are not in the entertainment business. We are not looking for new-fangled ideas. The old paths are the good way. We point people to Jesus Christ, Who is the Way. We speak the same Gospel that the Apostle Paul and the other Apostles preached.
Many today are like the people of Jeremiah's day. They want to have a religion that fits with their pride, ignorance, and immorality. They want a god of their own understanding – a god who understands their situation and approves of their sin. They seek new paths and new entertainment. We must not weaken the Gospel to accomodate them; otherwise, if we do, we will darken the path. Every generation must maintain the pure Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Gospel: We believe that we are sinners who cannot merit any part salvation. We believe on Jesus Christ alone for our salvation. He Who was the sinless Son of God made atonement for our sins on the cross and rose again the third day. Jesus took our sins upon Himself and gave us His righteousness. Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
1 Timothy 3:15b … that thou know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
