Peace with God and Peace of God

Dr J. C. Joiner 2June 5, 2016

“PEACE WITH GOD” and “PEACE OF GOD”

“Peace with God” and “Peace of God” are the two kinds of “peace” in salvation.

“PEACE WITH GOD”

…being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 5:1) …having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself (Col. 1:20)

“Peace with God is received through faith in Christ’s blood, and is a product of justification. The Bible declares that since the fall of Adam, all persons by nature are self-willed rebels. Men are at war with God because of their refusal to love and serve Him only (Luke 19:14). Jesus Christ came to earth and to make peace by His blood (Col. 1:20). The “peace with God” is the message proclaimed to every person and all nations (Acts 10:36; Rom. 10:15; Eph. 2:17). Men cannot make peace with God concerning their sin. However, God has made peace through His Son, Jesus Christ, and men can receive, ignore or reject the peace God is offering. Those who receive Jesus Christ by faith enjoy “peace with God.”

“PEACE OF GOD”

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful (Col 3:15).

“Peace of God” is that comfort and encouragement and tranquility of the soul which He alone gives obedient servants / saints. Jesus gives peace and comfort to His followers as they faithfully serve Him (John 14:27; 16:33). The believer enjoys this peace only as he casts his care upon God in prayer (Phil. 4:6,7). “Peace of God” is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22), and is enjoyed by believers who allow the Spirit of God to rule in their lives (Col 3:15). “Peace of God” comes to the believer when he meditates upon God’s love and protection, i.e., whose mind is stayed on thee (Isa 26:3).

WORLD’S PEACE GOD’S PEACE
1. Dependent of feelings V 1. Dependent on trust
2. Must be seen E 2. No need to be seen
3. Does not allow for troubles R 3. Allows for troubles
4. Feels must manage situation S 4. Need not manage situation
5. Tries to control U 5. Trust God to control
6. Ultimately fails S 6. Always endures
Do you want a peace that fails you just when you need it most?   Do you desire a peace that keeps you calm in the most threatening situations?
