Anticipating the Return of the King in 2016
(Jesus said) “Surely I come quickly.”
(John said) Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. (Rev. 22:20)
American Military Personnel
Last Friday, November 11, was named Veterans Day, a day that patriotic Americans honor those who served and those who are now serving in our nation’s military.
As part of that commemoration, I enjoyed the privilege of displaying our nation’s flag on the front of my home. Here at our Church, where for 24 hours, every day of the year, we fly “Old Glory” on an outside flagpole. Also, the “Stars and Stripes” have always had, a dedicated place on the main auditorium platform. It is my conviction that all homes, all public buildings, all schools, colleges, universities, and all worship places should prominently display the American flag, particularly on Memorial Day, Flag Day, the Fourth of July, and Veteran’s Day. By this conscientious demonstration, we show our appreciation to the eternal God for the greatest nation on earth, and our gratitude for those that served in war and then became the most effective “peace-keepers” in world history.
Here’s one definition of an armed forces veteran: “A veteran – whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve – is someone who, at one point in his / her life, wrote a blank check made payable to ‘The People of the United States of America for an amount of up to and including my life’.”
All peace-loving people in this world desire a time when war and terrorism shall be no more. For years, we’ve heard “the peace-loving” diplomats at the impotent United Nations speak of and negotiating for a day when men shall war no more. That’s commendable, but it will not happen their way. God’s Word prophezies of a day when our Saviour returns to establish His kingdom on earth: he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more (Isa 2:4).
As a Bible-believer, I am confident that there will be a day without war … a time when there is literally “peace on earth, good will toward all men” (Luke 2:14). Until that day, and we still have a nation, the United Sates must have a compelling and primed military!
