Anticipating the Return of the King in 2016

(Jesus said) “Surely I come quickly.”

(John said) Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. (Rev. 22:20)

God, the Great Deliverer

2 Peter 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

The promise of the hidden riches of secret places in Isaiah 45:3 was to Cyrus, King of Persia approximately 200 years before he reigned as king! God knew in advance that the Jews would need a deliverer. When this prophecy was declared, the Temple was still standing and the Jews were still in the land, but most of the Jews were worshipping idols. God knew that He was going to have His people taken captive by the King of Babylon. Most of the Jews who didn’t die in battle would be taken to Mesopotamia. Their Temple and the city of Jerusalem would be destroyed. Well before those things happened, God planned their deliverance. God would raise up the King of Persia to defeat the Babylonians and send the Jews home.

We have a principle in RU that we lose our freedom to choose when we give into temptation. The consequences of our choices are inevitable, incalculable and up to God. God knew what the Jews needed, and He knows what we need, but He always has a plan of deliverance! The consequences of idolatry for the Jews was the Babylonian Captivity. The consequences of our sins are various and up to God, but He knows what each of us needs individually. He also knows when and how He will deliver us. We must look to Him for that deliverance.

As the Christmas season comes upon us let us remember that before man ever sinned, God had devised a plan for man’s deliverance. God the Son would miraculously be born into this world, live a perfectly righteous life, pay for our sins with His blood, die, rise again, and ascend into heaven. God planned our deliverance before we needed delivering, even before the world was created!

1 Peter 1:18-20 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
