Pastor’s Notes – Bulletin for Sunday, May 24

Dr J. C. Joiner 2May 24, 2015

Memorial Day

A Day to be thankful to God for our country and for those who have served our country in the military.

It is more important than ever for us to have a strong military. There are dozens of wars going on all over the world. Many threats have been made against the United States. We must keep our military strong and be prepared for whatever just battles come our way.

Though we properly prepare for battle, we must depend on God. We cannot use God as a rabbit’s foot for luck. Many of the problems that America is facing are due to the wrong choices that Americans are making. If God is against something we should be too. God promises to bless righteousness. We must pray for revival in our country.

Proverbs 21:30-31 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD. The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

 Congratulations!

Graduation is a very special time!   This time of the year we honor those young people and adults who have successfully completed a milestone in the schooling process. In a day that evidences so many failures and quitters and losers, it is gratifying to witness the determination and fortitude of those who have finished a prescribed course!

We are particularly thankful to our Lord for each of you maintaining a strong Christian testimony throughout your education venture. Education is not just the acquisition of knowledge, but it is the process of learning how to live.  You can borrow “brains,” but you cannot borrow character!  Philosophically, your life is three ingredients:

  1. A life that has a CREED:  “What you believe.”
  2. A life that has a CODE:   “What you do.”
  3. A life that has CHARACTER: “What you are.”

You must live in reality, self-judgment, and self-denial. Essentially, these ought to be education’s primary purposes.   A search of Scripture reveals that Jesus Christ never taught people “how to make a living” … He taught people how to live!   Therefore, stay in God’s Word every day for the rest of your life to be successful in the direction of His perfect will.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.   And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God   (Rom 12:1-2).

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

MOTHER’S DAY CELEBRATED NATIONALLY FOR 101 YEARS

Our nation has a history of honoring biblical motherhood!  In 1907 Anna Jarvis began lobbying for a day when our nation would give special recognition to faithful mothers.  She persuaded the leaders of the local Church her mother attended to designate the second Sunday of May as Mother’s Day.  After Mrs. Jarvis had written countless letters to political authorities across the nation, Mother’s Day by 1911 was celebrated in almost every state.  In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Mother’s Day a national holiday.  He chose the second Sunday in May for the annual celebration because that day was the anniversary of the death of Mrs. Jarvis’ mother.

All MOTHERS TO BE HONORED

A Gift For Every Mother

Additional gift presented to:

Mother (newest)

Mother (eldest)

Mother (most years as a born again Christian)

Mother (most children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren)

Her children arise up, and call her blessed;

her husband also, and he praiseth her.

(Proverbs 31:28)

Pastor’s Notes – Bulletin for May 3

Dr J. C. Joiner 2May 3, 2015

It’s All Because Of Him, Jesus Christ!

For in him we live, and move, and have our being … (Act 17:28)

Because of HIS Love, HE CAME INTO THE WORLD FOR US.

(John 3:16)  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Because of HIS Grace, HE DIED FOR US.

(2 Cor. 8:9) For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

Because of HIS Power, HE AROSE FROM THE GRAVE FOR US.

(John 11:25)  Jesus said … I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Because of HIS Light, HE ENLIGHTED EACH OF US.

(Rom. 1:18-19) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them.

Because of HIS Will, HE BIRTHS US.  (The Second Birth – John 3:1-7)

(John 1:11-13)  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

In Him we live, and move, and have our being (very existence) … (Acts 17:28)

IT’S ALL BECAUSE OF HIM!

Pastor’s Notes – Bulletin for April 26

Dr J. C. Joiner 2April 26, 2015

TWO CREATIONS

  1. Physical CreationPsalms 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Colossians 1:16-17 For by him [Jesus Christ] were all things created . . . and by him all things consist. In physical creation God cares about design, beauty, and all the details to make sure His physical creation continues as He planned it. God is not a deist. He did not just create the universe and step back. He keeps His hand in His work. If God stayed out of the way, then His creation would be immediately destroyed and all life would perish. God even cares about the details of a bacterial cell. Bacteria are one celled creatures. There are normally over 1,500,000,000 bacterial cells in a pound of soil. God made each one to function as a complete unit with all its parts. Bacteria are an important element of God’s creation. If God cares that a bacterial cell has everything it needs, including a motor to make its flagellum move, don’t you think God cares about you?
  2. Spiritual CreationEphesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Colossians 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Psalms 40:2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. When we by faith trust Christ as our Saviour, we are born again of the Spirit of God. We receive eternal life at that moment. We are also adopted into the family of God. Our sins are forgiven. But it doesn’t stop there. God establishes our goings. God cares about the details of our spiritual life. Just like God must stay on top of His creation, God stays on top of us. He maintains us through the Bible (His Word), prayer, discipline, church leadership (Ephesians 4) and gifted church members (Romans 12). He gives us His Holy Spirit to convict us of sin and to give us victory over sin. The Holy Spirit works the fruits of the Spirit through us. He also gives each of us one or more gifts to use in ministry. As God designed his creation to work as He created it to, so He has designed the Christian to work as He has created us to work. God has equipped us (Ephesians 6) and will continue to equip us with everything we need to live the Christian life. We have no excuses for not living for God.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

We always can use more of the following: canned meats (spam, salmon, tuna, and Vienna sausages) and vegetables, sauces, rice, beans, noodles, mac & cheese, cereals, etc. You may drop off food goods in the front lobby. An usher may assist you.

Pastor’s Notes – Bulletin for April 19

Dr J. C. Joiner 2April 19, 2015

NTBC Theme for 2015

Keep Faith Pristine In Twenty Fifteen”

‘Keep Faith Pristine in Twenty Fifteen’ is based on 2 Timothy 4:7I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.

Accustomed to do evil (Jer. 13:23)

Christians can make serious mistakes in personal relationships when they assume the person they are dealing with, will eventually change for the better.   Fact: the changes that take place are usually for the worse, not the better!

Naively, most Christians always think their situation is “different.”  For example, a woman decides to marry a man that she knows in her heart is not now what he should be. Her fantasy is this: “Yes, he has problems, but he has potential.  He will eventually change because of me. He said he would be different.”

No!  What he is now is what he will be later! Experience proves that people do not change, even for love. When you buy a car – “as is,” don’t expect it to get any better, it will get worse.

Overwhelmingly, real life teaches us that the uncommitted person is now in the flesh, and he will be the same in the future. You have heard me offer this proven truism: “You are now what you have been becoming.”  God’s Word is definite: Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil? (Jer. 13:23) Yes! The grace of God can change any person, but only if he/she is genuinely saved as evidenced by a sincere desire to be consistently under the preaching and teaching of the Word of God, by a submission to the leadership of the Holy Spirit, by obedience to the simplicity of God’s Word in detail, by strict discipline and separation from worldliness, and by acceptance of personal responsibilities.  Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. (Mat 7:20Any person that will not earnestly do these things now and refuses to engage in efforts to make the necessary changes for a successful life, is in reality accustomed to do evil … and, in all likelihood,  will continue so.

Abortion!

The carnage of innocent babies!

The ultimate child abuse!

57,762,169 abortions in the USA since 1973.

With the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision 42 years ago, all 50 states have legalized abortion at any time and for any reason throughout pregnancy. Almost sixty million unborn children have been summarily executed. And who is the biggest purveyor of this bloodbath?

According to Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League, Planned Parenthood is America’s leading abortion corporation, a “nonprofit” that brought in $305.3 million last year. While taking in millions of dollars in taxpayer funds, the abortion giant Planned Parenthood killed 327,653 babies in 2013 according to their own annual report.

God’s Word is most emphatic that human life begins at conception and is also most emphatic about six things that He hates, one being hands that shed innocent blood.

Psalms 139:13-16.  Proverbs 6:16-17.

Pastor’s Notes – Bulletin for April 12

 Dr J. C. Joiner 2April 12, 2015

THE GREATNESS OF GOD

“Thine, O LORD …is the greatness … is the power …

is the glory … is the victory … is the majesty.

Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all (1Ch 29:11). (Look again at the bulletin’s cover page)

Only days before his death, King David praised the LORD after seeing the tremendous giving by the people to finance the building of God’s Temple. What both David and the people gave could only be described as awesomely God-like! After all, of course, He is the greatest of all givers!  According to Isaiah 60:13; 40:6, glory is the outward manifestation of something awesome. Question: what constitutes the awesomeness of God and His glory? According to Isaiah 6:1-3, God’s glory is the outward manifestation of His holiness. Witness God’s holiness and you’ll experience the outward manifestation of God’s glory (Isa 6:3).

Each Bible-believer can witness His holiness and experience the manifestation of His glory!

Same-Sex “Marriage” Decision

Supreme Court Review Marriage Laws

The United States Supreme Court has agreed to review a federal appeals court decision that upheld natural marriage laws in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. In their ruling affirming natural marriage laws, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals agreed that a prior state law defining marriage as one man and one woman did not violate the U.S. Constitution.

Over the course of American history, the Supreme Court has upheld marriage as a foundational social institution that is necessarily defined as the union of one man and one woman: Marriage is “fundamental to the very existence and survival of the race.” Skinner v. Oklahoma (1942). “An institution in the maintenance of which in its purity the public is deeply interested, for it is the  me-sex “marriage,” in spite of prior state laws and ordinances which declared that marriage was to be a union between one man and one woman. The five Justices who struck down the federal Defense of Marriage Act ventured onto ground upon which no other court has ever stood. Following the High Court’s disastrous ruling, state judiciaries, legislatures, and governors became entangled in a “gay” mess. Rogue liberal politicians and judicial activists, emboldened by the Justices’ misguided, activist ruling, decided to take the law into their own hands and defy existing codes in their states.

– – – – Liberty Counsel

(We can never be 100 percent sure what the Court will do, now that secular humanists are gaining power in each branch of government and the bureaucracy.  Unless there’s a “miracle,” the prospects of this decision being remotely biblical are very slim. Pray for our nation and our children’s future!)

Pastor’s Notes – Bulletin for Easter – April 5

Dr J. C. Joiner 2April 5, 2015

HAPPY RESURRECTION SUNDAY

He is Risen!

Events Occurring On That First Resurrection Sunday:

Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?  He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words.  (Luke 24:1-8)

This Lord’s Day is Resurrection Sunday. Although our Bible uses the word Easter (Acts 12:4), Church historians tell us that the early Christians did not acknowledge each other with “Happy Easter.”  Instead, their greeting included a testimony: “He is risen.”

Since both terms are scriptural, either salutation is appropriate for Bible-believers!

Seriously consider this Scripture fact: you are saved if you confess the Lordship of Jesus Christ and also believe in his literal, bodily resurrection.  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  (Rom 10:9)

Three Basic Rules of Bible Interpretation

  1. Find a fact, believe it.
  2. Find a promise, claim it.
  3. Find a command, obey it.

You don’t need to be a “deep” theologian to know God’s Word.

You are to read it or hear it, then obey it.
