 BIOGRAPHY OF DR. RON COMFORT

After working to pay his own way through seven years at Bob Jones Academy and University, Ron graduated and immediately entered full-time evangelism. He has continued in this ministry since 1961, having preached in forty-nine states and many foreign countries. The total number of crusades is well over 1,600.

Evangelist Comfort was honored in 1973 by Maranatha Baptist Bible College with the degree Doctor of Divinity. That same year he was honored by the Bob Jones University Alumni Association for “Outstanding Work in the Field of Evangelism.”

Dr. and Mrs. Comfort have been married since 1963. God has blessed their home with three daughters and eight grandchildren. Mrs. Comfort serves in the team’s music ministry in both piano and vocal music. She also works in the children’s meetings and serves as team secretary.

Dr. Comfort is the founder and chancellor of Ambassador Baptist College, Lattimore, North Carolina. The college was founded in 1989 for the express purpose of training men and women for full-time Christian service. ABC is known as an “old-fashioned, preacher-training Bible college,” in which each student is a Bible major completing at least sixty-five credit hours of Bible to receive a four-year degree. More than 900 hundred graduates and former students are now serving God around the globe in various aspects of ministry.

Dr. Comfort’s ministry has been characterized through the years by the abundant use of Scripture. Every crusade is geared for the family, and a strong emphasis is placed on godliness in the home.

OUR ANNUAL MISSION’S EMPHASIS SUNDAY

Today at 9:30 AM – Missionaries in all Classes

Today at 10:30 AM – Parade of Flags, Missionaries, Dr. Lou Baldwin

Tonight at 6:00 PM – Missions Concert, Mark Gray

Welcome to this special, climatic last day of our annual Missions emphasis. The Lord has truly inspired us since Wednesday by the testimonies, preaching, and teaching of totally surrendered men and women of God. Surely all the Church family loving the Lord and wanting to share the Gospel ministry world-wide, have been praying about commitments for Missions this year. Each of us will have the opportunity today to take a “giant-faith-step” for this year’s Faith-Promise … as have the myriad of “PILLARS OF FAITH” in this local Church age.

…  when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you,

to preach the gospel in the regions beyond you (2 Cor 10:15-16).

Our guests this missions week include:

Lou and Jeanette Baldwin

(Conference on Evangelizing Black America)

Joshua and Ruth Lovegrove and Children (Ethiopia)

Travis and Nicole Sanders and Children (China)

Mark and Mary Gray (Gospel Music)

After tonight’s service, you may choose a prayer envelope from the platform banister, so that you might pray for a missionary family throughout this year.

Tonight at 6:00 PM Concert with Mark Gray

Mark has a new CD at his table at the back of the auditorium. He also has many others that you may choose from.

Fall Revival – Evangelist Paul Schwanke

Monday through Wednesday: 7:00 pm

Many today are facing an uncertain future with many problems and stresses that are difficult to overcome. During these times we can receive faith and courage from the promises of God’s Word that we may face the future with confidence.

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Attempt great things for God, and then you can expect great things from God!  Revival involvement is one of those “great things”!  Here are several imperatives for this spiritually special week:

  1. Pray earnestly every day for the Revival meetings.
  2. Invite the unsaved and unchurched by phone or text or personal visit.
  3. Commit to be in every service.
  4. Prioritize this event for your family.

Evangelist Paul Schwanke

We are delighted to welcome our supported evangelist, one of America’s best!  Paul Schwanke, a dynamic speaker and scripture expositor, has given himself to one thing – Bible preaching. Saved as a young boy through the influence of godly parents, Brother Schwanke was impacted by revival meetings, mission conferences, and youth camps sponsored by his Baptist Church. As a youngster Paul was called to preach and immediately began preparing for God’s highest vocation. Upon graduating from Bible College, his family traveled with Evangelist Gary Gillmore. Thereupon, he stepped out by faith into evangelism fulltime. He and wife Cathy are blessed with three children and two grandchildren.  Since 1983, Evangelist Paul Schwanke has been used of God to preach almost 14,000 times in 46 states and on every continent. Travels have included mission trips to Singapore, Malaysia, Honduras, Chile, Philippines, Mexico, Canada, Romania, the Caribbean, Ghana, Italy, Hungary, Ireland, New Zealand, Ukraine, Haiti, Kenya, Peru. He has been most effective in many revivals here in our Church. Paul declares, “The glory belongs at the cross for the multitudes saved and hearts that have been stirred for revival.”

Desiring God’s Presence

Dr J. C. Joiner 2September 25, 2016

DESIRING GOD’S PRESENCE

RU was delighted to sponsor the recovery seminar. We were very fortunate to have the Burks with us. They have a great passion for God and communicated well with us that we might have that same passion. They left us in a state of spiritual energy and love. They also left us with some tools to help others without enabling them.

We had a large turnout for the 10-Year Anniversary Banquet on Friday and the same for the seminar on Saturday. All were blessed. If you missed any of the messages preached in the auditorium Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, they were recorded. You may listen online at www.ntbctucson.com or request a CD from the sound booth. Every message is important to hear.

The emphasis during the entire week has been on having a relationship with God. Many times people are good at performing and doing, but it is possible to perform and do without having worship from the heart. We must desire to walk with God and to build a relationship with God. We want to be where God is. We want to walk where God walks. Brother Burks, on Wednesday, used Joshua as an example. Joshua stayed at the tabernacle where God’s presence dwelt. He wanted to be as close to God as he could be. Later, God used Joshua to lead Israel into the promised land.

Both of the Burks also stated that no change can occur without the Word of God. The Word of God is a tenderizer. It works on our hearts. Our change must begin from the inside out.

There are a lot of self-help books and programs out there. RU is not a self-help program. It is a God-help program.

RU wishes to thank you for your generosity in giving to the Burks to supply their need as our missionaries. They appreciated the hospitality we showed them, and they desire to return in the future. Thank you also for your attendance to the many services in these six days. You are welcome to visit our Friday evening class. It meets in the RU classroom off the courtyard from 7 PM to 9:30 PM.

Fall Revival – October 16-19 – Evangelist Paul Schwanke

He has preached God’s Word in Revival Meetings around the world for 34 years!

He has previously held successful Revival Services in our church many times. He has a great passion for communicating God’s Word, the Bible. Invite your friends and family.

In perilous times of questions and turmoil, God’s answers are found in God’s Word. As our society seeks any solution it can cling to, the simple message of Heaven resonates as never before: “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near…” You are invited to hear the preaching of Evangelist Paul Schwanke where the Bible is the only authority.

Wisdom from Above

James 3:17-18 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

These verses help us to test our thoughts and decisions to make sure they are truly wise. Let’s look at some of the test words:

  • Pure – Are my thoughts free from moral defilement?
  • Peaceable – Are my thoughts free from feuds or quarrels?
  • Gentle – Are my thoughts free from harshness?
  • Easy to be entreated – Is it easy for others to approach me?
  • Full of mercy – Do I have a tenderness of heart towards others?
  • Full of good fruit – Will my thoughts tend to produce good towards others?
  • Without partiality – Am I making an unbiased judgment?
  • Without hypocrisy – Am I being deceptive to myself or others?

Pastor’s Notes – Bulletin for September 11

Dr J. C. Joiner 2September 11, 2016

The Importance of the Invitation

After each preaching service we give you an opportunity to respond to the message. If you are not sure you are going to heaven when you die, please come forward at the invitation and let one of the men at the front know that you would like to make sure you are saved. A counselor will then go with you to the counselling room (man with man; woman with woman) and show you God’s Plan of Salvation by going over the Scriptures with you.

The following is from the Baptist Times p. 5 – Note: We have free copies at the back table.

Develop the invitation habit – As soon as every invitation starts, make it an actual habit to ask God to reveal any change that is needed in your life. Be honest and let Him speak. Sometimes, you need to be willing to kneel in order to lock everything else out and allow your posture to inform your heart of its necessary attitude – humble submission. Be still and quiet in your thoughts long enough to hear what He says.

Make a plan – If you make the change that the Holy Spirit is speaking to you about, what will it look like on Monday? What would you literally have to do differently in order to be obedient to the Holy Spirit’s prompting? Many Christians can’t execute because they don’t get past how it feels. Make application.

Write it down – Make a note in your Bible or bulletin with a date of what you determined you needed to do. . .

RU Recovery Banquet and Seminar – September 16-21

RU was started by Steven Curington as a Bible study on Friday nights at North Love Baptist Church in Rockford, Illinois. They had four in attendance that first Friday night in April, 1996. Those four each had a completely different type of addiction: overeating, drugs, alcohol, and pornography. After a few years the Friday night Bible study was attracting hundreds with many getting baptized and getting active in the church. Steve quit his good paying job to work full-time with RU as it started expanding to other churches. Now, over 1000 Baptist Churches have started an RU. We are the 446th chapter. We started in 2006 under the direction of Jack Knight, who was the first director of our RU program until his death in 2008. Jack and Jacque (Joiner) did a wonderful job of getting RU off to a great start. In ten years’ time we have ministered to hundreds.

ben-and-wendy-burksBen and Wendy Burks – In 2001, Brother Burks attended the first conference in Rockford, Illinois hosted by Reformers Unanimous. He left Rockford with an intense desire to go home to Virginia and reach the addicted within his community.  He began a chapter in Virginia shortly after returning home from that conference.  His heart was stirred to reach the addicted not only in that community, but also across America.  God led him and his family to Rockford, Illinois in 2003, only two years after attending that conference, to become the International Director of the fastest growing addiction ministry in the United States.

Brother Burks is a Bible school graduate and has worked as an Assistant Pastor, Senior Pastor, and Staff Evangelist.  He has been in ministry since 1984, and has watched through the years as family, friends, and acquaintances have had their lives wrecked because of the many addictions that Satan uses to destroy lives.  He has seen the destruction up close and from afar, and grew tired of watching lives and families destroyed.  God has given to him a burden and a tool to help people who are held captive by their addictions and stubborn habits. “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32)

He has used this tool, and seen thousands of lives changed and people set free from their chains of addiction.  Reformers Unanimous is a faith-based addiction program designed to direct the addicted back to God’s support group—the local church.  Brother Burks is now privileged to travel and train others how to help the addicted within their communities.

Seminar Schedule:

  • Friday, Sept. 16 – 10-year Anniversary Banquet
  • Saturday, Sept. 17 – Training classes (Lunch included)
    • 10 AM to 2 PM
    • Ladies: Wendy will also be speaking!
  • Sunday, Sept. 18 – Ben Burks will be preaching in all the services.
  • Monday through Wednesday at 7 PM (Sept. 19-21) Ben Burks will be preaching.

Please sign up at the back table for the RU banquet on Friday, Sept. 16 and the luncheon on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Pastor’s Notes – Bulletin for August 21

Dr J. C. Joiner 2August 21, 2016

Making Our Church Services More Effective!

The purpose of every service is the effective presentation and reception of the preaching and teaching of the Word of God. Any disturbance or distraction can be used to divert attention from this goal. Particularly under the balcony, excessive movement and/or talking can be very distracting to others.

We are blessed with a well-staffed nursery for all infants and toddlers for every service. An electronic nursery pager system is in effect for any emergency. Gifted teachers and workers give Bible instruction in a graded Sunday School at 9:30 AM. During the 10:30 AM Sunday service, we offer “Junior Church” for children up to and including the sixth grade. During the 6:00 PM Sunday evening service, elementary age youngsters have the privilege of a children’s choir.

Parents need to be especially thoughtful. If you choose to have your children sit with you during the main auditorium services, there is no objection. However, youngsters do not understand why they must be seated and silent. For them to understand and to obey is the responsibility of the parents.  What an excellent opportunity for a learning and training experience for your children. Do not permit them to leave for a drink of water; they will not die of thirst before the preacher is finished! If they have a tendency of frequent needs for toilet relief (how else can I say this), take them to the restroom before the service and find seating near the back of the auditorium.

Of course there are times of emergencies and sickness when people must be excused, we understand that. But, if you must leave during the preaching of the Word, on your return, do not go back to your seat, but please be seated in the back of the auditorium until the invitation. All unaccompanied youngsters will be seated there with ushers. Adults should be considerate to be seated at the back of the auditorium without being asked. Leaving once during the message is a disturbance, which can and should be appropriate, but it is not necessary to disturb twice.

This is the house of God (Psa 122:1). Let’s be so thoughtful that we never distract unnecessarily others from hearing the Word of God. Thanks for your cooperation and courtesy!                                                                   Pastor Joiner

Teachers and Workers Appreciation Banquet

Thursday, September 8 at 6:00 PM

Paul writes to Timothy: And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:15

This Appreciation Banquet is for all teachers, helpers, deacons, and trustees, plus all who help with all other ministries of our church such as the van ministry, music, Sunday afternoon rehab ministries, AWANA, and RU. There will be a sign-up sheet at the back of the auditorium next Sunday. Please be sure to sign up.

RU Recovery Banquet and Seminar – September 16-21

Ben and Wendy Burks – Ben Burks is the international director of RU. We will be celebrating the 10-year anniversary of RU in our church. He preaches in churches all over the world.

  • Friday, Sept. 16 – 10-year Anniversary Banquet
  • Saturday, Sept. 17 – Training classes (Lunch included)
    • 10 AM to 2 PM
  • Sunday, Sept. 18 – Ben Burks will be preaching in all the services.
  • Monday through Wednesday at 7 PM (Sept. 19-21) Ben Burks will be preaching.

We are inviting pastors and churches who are interested in the RU Recovery Program to attend.

Sobering Statistics for America:

  • 7 Million people drove drunk at least one time in 2013
  • 1 in 10 adults drink 74 or more alcoholic drinks per week.
  • Deaths from drug overdoses are higher than deaths from traffic accidents.

From these statistics we can easily believe that in the Tucson area there are at least 50,000 alcoholics and probably as many addicted to drugs, both legal and illegal. This is why we have an RU. Even those who won’t step foot into a church will come with you on Friday night. Bring someone to RU this Friday. You will be blessed also!

Fall Revival – October 16-19 – Evangelist Paul Schwanke

Since 1982 Evangelist Paul Schwanke has been used of God to preach revival meetings at Independent Baptist Churches around the world.  The promise of God is that His word will never return void, and the power of the Bible is still changing lives in this day.

Pastor’s Notes – Bulletin for November 29

Dr J. C. Joiner 2November 29, 2015

Pastor’s Bible Study Series:

“The Human Body … The Mystery of the Ages”

Made in His Image

God created man in his own image (Gen 1:27)

Tonight:

A DVD series examining the complexities of YOUR BODY!

Sundays: 6:00 PM

November 15 – “The Miracle of Birth”

November 22 – “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” (Psalm 139:14)

November 29 – The Miracle of Eyes”

December 13 – “The Miracle of Hands”

The Institute of Creation Research and Answers in Genesis have produced two excellent DVD series that will take us on a journey through the most complex and miraculous creation on planet earth — usThere is no better evidence of complex, conscious, intelligent design of this world than our human bodies. This series featuring medical, engineering, biological, and anatomical experts will challenge us and instruct us with mind-boggling, dazzling imagery, and memorable illustrations.

Last Sunday night we saw “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made.” Dr. David Menton, Ph.D. explained from anatomical science and biology the truth Psalm 139:13-16 that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made … that God weaves us together as a new human being in the   womb of our Mother. This graphically illustrated discourse also reveals the amazing and intricate design of the womb and the processes of fertilization, implantation, embryonic development, and birth itself. Each of these is a series of miracles (irreducible complexities) that cannot be explained by evolution – a theory of chance and random processes.

Tonight at 6:00: “The Miracle of Eyes” shows that only a masterful Creator could bring into existence the intricate engineering of human sight. You will marvel at this vital visual system developing from infancy through adulthood. As kind of a portal between our interior and exterior worlds, our eyes are a perfect combination of function and beauty, demonstrating all-or-nothing unity. The eyes are formed during gestation with tissue folding around themselves in a choreography of miraculously time steps of development.

Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.

(Psalm 119:18)

As your Pastor, I promise you that this presentation tonight will increase your confidence in our Bible – God’s Word – that scientifically declares that a glorious Creator formed us in His image. You need to invite your friends and family to be here with you tonight!

Pastor’s Notes – Christian Marriage

July 26, 2015

CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE

From the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply

(Mark 10:6; Gen 1:28).

The New Testament Baptist Church maintains the morality standards of the Bible (AV), which is our final authority on all issues of living and life. Therefore, all sexual activity is restricted to a husband and wife. All sexual activity outside of that holy union of a man and woman is immoral and is condemned in God’s Word. We affirm that any form of sexual immorality such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography, or any attempt to change one’s biological sex is sinful and offensive to God.  God’s inerrant and infallible Word is unambiguous in its declaration that sexual sin, such as named above, is an offense to a holy God.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to usward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).  We believe God offers redemption and restoration to all of us as sinners who will repent of sin and seek His mercy and forgiveness through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. However, those known to be unrepentant practitioners of sexual sin cannot, according to our Church constitution and by-laws, be members in this congregation / assembly. Allowing anyone to remain as a member in an unrepentant state, we believe brings God’s displeasure on our local Church and forfeiture of His blessings.

Further, we believe that Christian marriage has only one meaning and is defined by God in His Word and that His Word limits the definition of marriage to the joining of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union. From the beginning of the creation God made them male and female … and God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply (Mark 10:6;Gen 1:28).  God the Creator ordains sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and woman – a male and female – who are married to each other. Sexual relations apart from such marriage is a sin which God declared He will judge.

Adherence to God’s definition of marriage and the practice of acceptable moral conduct as the Bible defines it is expected of all who have joined by baptism or letter, and those employed  by the New Testament Baptist Church.

NTBC Theme for 2015

“Keep Faith Pristine In Twenty Fifteen”

‘Keep Faith Pristine in Twenty Fifteen’ is based on 2 Timothy 4:7 – I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.  “To keep the faith” is to claim the promises in God’s Word and apply them to my particular problems. “To keep the faith” is confidence in God’s faithfulness to me in an uncertain world, on an uncharted course, through an unknown future
