The Glory of Jesus Christ – Bulletin for August 23

August 23, 2015

The Glory of Jesus Christ

Whether people see it or not, all creation glorifies God. In 2 Corinthians 3 Paul speaks of the blindness of the minds and hearts that many people have. They are blind to the glory of God, especially the Glory of God in Christ. The Apostle John was given a revelation of Jesus Christ in His Glory. He testifies to us of that vision he received in Revelation 1:12-16 – And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

  • Seven (Golden) Candlesticks – The seven churches of Asia Minor that Jesus writes to in Revelation chapters two and three. These churches represent churches throughout the centuries. Jesus is Lord over the churches today.
  • His Clothing – That of a High Priest – Jesus is our Mediator
  • His Head and Hair – White – Holiness and Purity – Note that this is similar to the vision that Daniel had of God in Daniel 7:9.
  • His Eyes – A flame of fire – Jesus can see everything; His eyes can penetrate our minds and hearts.
  • His Feet – Fine Brass – Brass always symbolizes judgment. The feet symbolize His rule and authority.
  • His Voice – His Countenance – This is a reference not only to the gravity and importance of what Christ says, but it also portrays Christ’s deity – Ezekiel 43:2 And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory.
  • Seven Stars – Probably the head pastors of the seven churches.
  • Sharp Two-edged Sword – The Word of God

Clearly, Jesus is the Glory of God. He is Head over the church. Many today worship a Jesus of their own making and imagination, not the Jesus of the Bible. Not the Jesus who is overseeing His churches. The Bible teaches that we are to keep our eyes on the Lord. We are to see Christ in all His Glory. He has all of the attributes of God, because He is God.

As we look to Jesus Christ we become more like Him. We are to have the mind of Christ. The word Christian means Christ-like. Becoming more Christ-like happens as we meditate on Him and yield our lives to Him. 2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. Our life then brings glory to God through God working the fruit of the Spirit and His gifts through us!

1 Peter 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not,

yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

“Keep Faith Pristine In Twenty Fifteen”

‘Keep Faith Pristine in Twenty Fifteen’ is based on 2 Timothy 4:7 – I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.  “To keep the faith” is to claim the promises in God’s Word and apply them to my particular problems. “To keep the faith” is confidence in God’s faithfulness to me in an uncertain world, on an uncharted course, through an unknown future

Pastor’s Notes – Trust in the Lord Forever

July 19, 2015

TRUST IN THE LORD FOREVER

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength: Isaiah 26:3-4

Many Christians in America have become complacent about where they place their trust. It can be easy for us to place our trust in things, in ourselves, in our country, etc. To see what trust in the Lord means, let’s first see what the wrong kind of trust is. Ancient Israel had been placing their trust in everything except God. God, through Isaiah rebukes them for misplacing their trust:

Isaiah 30:2-3 … to trust in the shadow of Egypt! Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.
Isaiah 30:12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and stay thereon:
Isaiah 31:1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!
Isaiah 36:5 I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
Isaiah 36:6 Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.
Isaiah 42:17 They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods.
Isaiah 59:4 None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.

In the New Testament we see rebuke for misplaced trust:

Mark 10:24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
2 Corinthians 1:9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
Philippians 3:4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:
1 Timothy 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

How do I trust God more? It starts by building a relationship with Jesus Christ, the Author and Finisher of our faith (Heb. 12:2). How did you gain trust in your friend, your spouse, your family member? It was through getting to know that person. We get to know Jesus through the preaching and teaching and reading of the Word of God and through prayer, and through seeing God work in our lives and in the lives of others. We need to be in the Word of God every day and in His house (1 Tim. 3:16) for every service unless providentially hindered.

We might live in an unstable world and in uncertain times, but we have a foundation to build our lives upon in Jesus Christ. We need not live in fear, for our confidence is in God. 2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

CREATION SCIENCE

Here at New Testament Baptist Church we believe in a young earth. We believe that Adam and Eve were specially created by God. We don’t believe that any animal life died until after Adam and Eve sinned. Therefore, we believe that all animal fossils, including dinosaurs, were made after man sinned. To help you understand the science of creation there are a couple of good websites:

  1. http://www.icr.org/   Recent News
  1. Another great site is https://answersingenesis.org/
    • Ken Ham has written many good books supporting a young earth.

On both of the above sites you can read scientific articles and get information on books that will help you better understand the true science, so that you and your children won’t be deceived by the evolution hoax. You may also find books and videos in our church library.

What Must I Do to be Saved?

cox-ronWhat must I do to be saved?

That is the question that the Philippian jailer asked the Apostle Paul in Acts 16. Earlier that evening the jailer had fasten Paul and Silas in stocks in an inner cell of the jail. He may have heard them pray and sing. During the praying and singing there was an earthquake that also loosened the stocks and doors. Paul and Silas were no longer secured. The jailer was awakened and spoke with Paul and Silas.

Paul’s answer to the jailer was, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. . .”

The jailer allowed Paul to explain to him and his family the Scriptures and the purpose of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. They all got saved that night. They became Christians.

We must be saved from the penalty of sin.

The Bible teaches that every person is a sinner. God must judge sin. Because of sin, we deserve God’s wrath. We are bound for hell.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23For the wages of sin is death;…

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Jesus appeased God’s Wrath.

Jesus appeased God the Father’s wrath by being the perfect sacrifice for sin when He died on the cross. Jesus is God in the flesh. He had lived a perfect, sinless life. Jesus became a sin offering for us as He hung there on the cross. After three days Jesus rose from the dead, and gives victory over death to all who believe. Jesus takes our sins and gives us His righteousness.

1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Romans 5:8-9 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

We cannot save ourselves.

We cannot be saved any other way except by Jesus. There is no other way to heaven. God is not going to compare you or me with other people to see if we were good enough. Not of us are good enough. Nether can we do enough good works to get to heaven. We must come God’s way through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We Must Repent and Believe.

We must turn from sin. We must ask God to forgive us.

Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

1 Thessalonians 1:9-10 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We Must Call upon the Lord, asking Jesus to save us.

John 1:11-12 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Romans 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

If you pray and ask Jesus to forgive you and save you, please let us know. If you have any Bible questions our would like biblical counselling we are available to help you. Also, after you become a Christian it is important to follow the Lord in baptism and become part of a good, Bible-believing church family. We are here to assist you.

Daily Bible Journal – Revelation 19-22 and Proverbs 31

Read Revelation 19-22

Revelation 19

Revelation 19:11-13 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

At the end of the Tribulation The Lord Jesus Christ will bring the world into subjection to His reign. The Antichrist and false prophet will be cast into the lake of fire.

Revelation 20

Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

At the end of the Millennium the devil will be loosed for a season, and then he will be cast into the lake of fire. Notice that the beast and false prophet are still there suffering in the lake of fire.

Revelation 21

Revelation 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

We do not deserve such a place to dwell in, but those of us who are saved by the blood of the Lamb have our names written in the Lamb’s book of life. It will be a wonderful place.

Revelation 22

When my wife reads a novel she often reads the end of the book first to make sure she wants to read the whole book. She won’t waste her time reading a book if she doesn’t like the ending. Well we know what the end of the book says for us as Christian. Satan loses his battle. Heaven is real, and God wins. We are on the winning side. It should motivate us to keep on keeping on.

Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

One of John’s purposes in writing this book was to reveal Jesus in such a way that the unsaved would be drawn to Christ.

The end of the New Testament and this journal.

Proverbs 31

Proverbs 31:2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

This chapter may be the words of Bathsheba. After her sin of adultery with David, she lost the son that had been born. If Solomon was the son of her vows, it appears she had repented of her adultery and made some vows to God asking Him for another son.

As we make resolutions for the new year, let us commit to those things that will help us walk in the Spirit with a closer relationship with Christ.

Daily Bible Journal – Revelation 17-18 and Proverbs 30

cox-ronDecember 30, 2012

Read Revelation 17-18

Revelation 17

Revelation 17:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Our relationship with God is compared often in Scripture with that of marriage. When we turn away from God we commit spiritual adultery. Therefore I believe this whore to be a ritualistic form of Christianity that has turned away from God.  The city can only be Rome.  During the Tribulation there is a temporary union of this church with the political powers; however, that union will be broken and the adulterous church will be destroyed.

Revelation 18

Revelation 18:20 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her. Revelation 18:24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

The Roman emperors oversaw great persecution of Christians. Nero made torches out of tarred Christians, and he had them fight to the death against wild animals and gladiators. He also cut off their heads. When Rome became Christian it wasn’t long before the church began to rule over the governments of Europe. The Church of Rome began to persecute Baptist like people that didn’t submit to the authority of the Church of Rome.  The city here appears to be Rome. No other city comes to mind that was responsible for more martyrs.

Proverbs 30

Proverbs 30:32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

We are not to lift ourselves up in pride. We must control our tongue, though it is the hardest organ for us to control. When pride controls our tongue, then discord and fighting are the results.
